Sunera means era of the sun. An era, that I have patiently waited to arrive. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to raise and breed dogs and as a young girl I spent a lot of time learning from a good friend and mentor, who breeds and continues to breed outstanding Labrador Retrievers. I learned a lot from her, but especially how much blood, sweat and tears go into raising excellent dogs.
I have always had an interest in the sighthound as a group of dogs due to their elegance, their beauty, grace and of course their athleticism. It wasn't until I purchased my first Silken Windhound from Clayborn Kennels - Clayborn's Outta My Way, Priya, that I fell hopelessly and deeply in love with the Silken Windhound as a breed. If you get the opportunity to share your life with one of these incredible hounds, you will know exactly what I mean.
Before I could begin a breeding program however, I had to finish school. I studied veterinary sciences at the University of Arizona and went on to complete my doctorate in veterinary medicine at Colorado State University. I currently work as an emergency veterinarian full time and continue to maintain a special interest in reproduction and reproductive emergencies.
Sunera has since grown to include a variety of breeds. I currently campaign a beautiful Borzoi from Majenkir, 2 gorgeous Afghan hounds from Jaada and Mistrato as well as a beautiful Saluki from Hayat. These lovely dogs have expanded my love for the sighthound group and I look forward to potentially breeding them in the future.
We are currently a hobby kennel that produces a small number of litters every few years. The happiness and health of our dogs is our number one priority and to maintain that, our focus is not to produce a large number of puppies. Our dogs share our home with us. They enjoy access to acreage in beautiful Utah and hog our couches and our bed! We show together, we lounge together and overall we have a lot of fun! Our dogs are our family and an important part of our lives.
If you are interested in joining the Sunera Family, and want to embark on the incredible journey of sharing your life with one of the greatest breeds on earth, please contact me. If I don't have any puppies or dogs available, I can point you in the right direction. But, as a warning to you...it is very difficult to only have 1 silken windhound. :)
